Held during the six-day Free School 2025 – The School of Fireflies, the Fireflies Conversations are free talks that combine poetic interludes, music, and insightful reflection. The Fireflies Conversations take us on a journey through a constellation of minor lights that shine against the singular glare of the present. You can listen to the lectures again on this page.

An afternoon filled with sand, dance, and confusion (and also, a bit of wonder)

A contribution by Aya Ouday, communication student at Erasmus University College in Brussels. As part of her studies, she followed a group of young people at the festival to report on their experience. On 11th May, Aya accompanied a group from Cité des Jeunes youth centre in Sint-Gillis as they participated in a workshop and attended a performance at the festival under the NoFilter project.

Frie Leysen Grant

We will start this year with an empty day: a day dedicated to Frie Leysen, who left us last autumn. Kunstenfestivaldesarts and deSingel - the arts center that founded Frie in 1980 - are jointly establishing a scholarship for emerging artists in her name: a tribute to Frie's commitment to always looking to the future rather than honouring the past.
