11.05 | Workshop with Boris Charmatz
Boris Charmatz – dancer, choreographer and founder of the Terrain company – continues to ceaselessly question the very foundations of dance. With CERCLES, his large-scale participatory dance project which premiered at Festival d’Avignon in 2024, he brings together 200 dancers to create a collective choreography over the course of a few days. The audience is not merely a spectator, but becomes an active part of the dance as it takes shape in real time. In this workshop, Charmatz shares a few dances from CERCLES, working with the circle as an ancient dance form to build a choreography from continuously repeating movements, culminating in a collective burst of energy. Or, as he himself puts it: “The dances act like a positive, exhilarating, (almost) harmless drug.

22.05 | Workshop with Decoratelier
Brussels-based scenographer and theatre maker Jozef Wouters invites participants to Decoratelier, a continuously evolving project housed in a former factory in Molenbeek. From here, he initiates diverse projects and collaborations: from performances and festivals to residencies and scenographic projects, such as a temporary space for the social restaurant Cassonade. During the workshop, participants gain insight into this hybrid workspace, which functions both as an architecture studio that creates performances and a theatre company that builds spaces. A first group of participants will work alongside the builders of Decoratelier on scenography and architectural thinking, working with life‑size canvases and shaping them by experimenting with colour, form and perspective. A second group will learn to look through a technical, construction-oriented lens by actively contributing to the ever‑changing Decoratelier, adding new elements to the outdoor area and the rooftop terrace. In doing so, both groups discover how space, imagination and collaboration continuously influence one another.
