Romeo Castellucci is among the most significant directors working today. The ambitious and hugely successful trilogy that he developed around The Divine Comedy, co-produced by the festival and featured on this year’s programme, constitutes a veritable landmark. But this director also likes to extend his large-scale projects with “fragments”, short performances that, in a sudden burst of the imagination, emerge fully-shaped. In Storia dell’Africa contemporanea Vol. III, written last summer in a small Italian village, the artist stages himself in an all too human ritual.
