Salim Djaferi Brussels

Salim Djaferi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels, trained at the Ecole Supérieure d’Acteurs (ESACT) in Liège. An actor, writer and director, he focuses on documentary theatre, exploring personal and collective narratives through theatrical, visual and performative forms. His work is part of a research-based approach, informed in particular by his collaborations with Adeline Rosenstein, Noureddine Ezarraf and Clement Papachristou.
In 2019, he created Sajada/Le lien, a performance-installation inspired by a collection of Muslim prayer rugs. In 2021, he presented his first play, Koulounisation, a documentary investigation into French colonisation in Algeria, approached from the perspective of language. Starting with the question “how do you say colonisation in Arabic?”, the work weaves a collective narrative revealing the different ways of living and recounting history.
In 2023, Salim Djaferi embarked on a new documentary project with Bâtir. Focusing this time on large housing estates in France, he continues with this project to examine collective history through individual narratives, whilst developing a theatrical writing that blends theoretical rigour with artistic collaborations.
