A discussion on public leisure spaces
With: Paul Steinbrück (Pool is Cool), Marie Umuhoza (Décoratelier), Mimoun Mohamed (JOC), Eric Cyuzuzo (Kunstenfestivaldesarts)
In the past months Decoratelier has worked with a series of young people, involving them in the building process of FLOW, the first public swimming pool in open air in Brussels. On the occasion of the opening of the swimming pool, the festival organizes a talk with them, centered on their vision of the swimming pool, and on how it can become a blueprint of a radically accessible space in the coming months. In fact, the construction of FLOW is part of a reflection on access to leisure spaces, and the policies of privatization and discrimination, which became even more visible during the pandemic, for instance in relation to access to the coast. Starting from a listening session of their points of view, this discursive moment reflects on the right to leisure, the politics of spaces, and focuses on what’s at stake in the future months of this new Brussels project.
