Nasim Ahmadpour is a theatre director, playwright, and screenwriter whose practice moves between performance and cinema, with a strong focus on text-based theatre, narrative experimentation, and collective authorship. She has been a key figure in contemporary Iranian theatre since 2003, including as a member of the Don Quixote Theatre Group, contributing significantly to the development of independent and experimental theatre practices, and received the Best Playwright Award at Tehran’s International Theatre Festival (FITF) in 2013.
Her theatre works have been presented internationally at major institutions and festivals, including Festival d’Automne à Paris, Fondation Cartier, Performa Biennial (New York), Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), and the Milan Triennale. She is the creator of The Tables Project, an ongoing performative series that examines contemporary Iranian theatre through text-based performance. The Report on the Judgment Day and We Came to Dance constitute the first and second parts of the project. She is currently developing the third part, Lady with Fans, which examines women’s bodies, spectatorship, and the politics of visibility in contemporary Iranian theatre.
Alongside her theatre practice, Ahmadpour has maintained a parallel engagement with cinema, collaborating with several filmmakers and contributing to screenwriting projects that have premiered at major international film festivals. Her work continues to explore the intersection of performance, narration, and political imagination.
