Call for Applications: New Artistic Direction for Kunstenfestivaldesarts (F/M/X)
Kunstenfestivaldesarts is an international performing arts festival dedicated to contemporary theatre and dance, performance, and visual arts. The festival takes place annually in Brussels, for three weeks in May.
The festival was founded by Frie Leysen in 1994, and Christophe Slagmuylder took over as artistic director in 2007. Since 2019, artistic direction has been provided by Dries Douibi and Daniel Blanga Gubbay working as a duo, who currently form the management of Kunstenfestivaldesarts together with the financial director Frederik Verrote. In early 2025, Dries Douibi and Daniel Blanga Gubbay announced they would be resigning from their positions as artistic directors, after the 2026 Festival.
The new artistic direction team will be responsible for preparing the programme for the 2027 festival, work on which will begin from January 1, 2026. We are looking for an artistic direction team that knows and understands the past and present achievements of the festival and is willing to continue its mission of research and innovation. The position is open to individual or duo applications. Collective submissions are not eligible.
Kunstenfestivaldesarts is a bi-community organisation. As an international festival in Brussels, it is supported by the Flemish Community, the French Community, and the Brussels-Capital Region. It also collaborates with cultural partners on both sides of the language border, and it hosts a multilingual team (FR/NL). The artistic directors must therefore have language skills in French and Dutch to be able to communicate with the competent authorities, partners, and festival team. The artistic directors must also be proficient in English.
Application deadline: 8 June 2025.
