What is the distance between obedience and resistance in hierarchical system? Romeo Castellucci’s new work involves every night a different group of twenty performers, dealing with a series of actions secretly imparted through earphones. Dressed in 1940s police uniforms, they embody the image of a power structure, within which obedience is presented as a constitutive rule. Every night they learn their gestures in real time, and live in the immediacy of their responses, in a spectrum of possible actions that also includes the refusal to move. Romeo Castellucci returns to the Kunstenfestivaldesarts to present the world premiere of a work, which stands as a new format in his career, and almost an aesthetic and political manifesto. Presented in the space of an abandoned cinema, Bros embodies a double reflection. On the one hand it is a treatise on the role of the actor, who gives their body to actions that are not their own. On the other, it accompanies each us into a reflection on hierarchical systems, and the subtle space between order and free will.
