On the occasion of Work/Travail/Arbeid, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has worked at WIELS for nine weeks. Following “my walking is my dancing,” the choreographic principle of her recent performances, Atendant, Cesena, Partita 2 and Vortex Temporum, and “my talking is my dancing,” in which words lay at the origin of Golden Hours (As you like it), this time she foregrounds the music that provides “breathing” for her “dancing.” Salvatore Sciarrino’s L’Opera per flauto a masterly invention of voices and instrumental gestures between silence and murmuring noises played by Chryssi Dimitriou offers her the first impulse to dance in the steps of the flutist’s breath. Coming out of the humble shadow of music, De Keersmaeker unfolds a silent concert of space, a vectorial dance that draws an expansive kinesphere. An elegant study on motion from breath to space.
