Habib Ben Tanfous Brussels

Habib Ben Tanfous is a Brussels-based choreographer and performer. His journey began with his discovery of hip-hop at age 15, an art form to which he dedicated himself entirely. He attended the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, graduating in 2018. In 2019, Habib Ben Tanfous’s career took a new direction: he was selected for the Tremplin Hip Hop #3 programme and, at the same time, began the Higher Certificate in Dance and Choreographic Practices at Charleroi danse, a course that enabled him to shape his artistic practice. During the same period, he experimented with documentary approaches and, together with Elisa Firouzfar, founded the company FINEK. The company shares its name with the duo’s first performance, FINEK, a piece for five dancers. Through this creation, the two developed a choreographic and aesthetic language that embraces the hybridity of genres. In doing so, they presented unique and composite forms that reflect the complexity of belonging and of personal stories. In 2023, Habib Ben Tanfous created and performed the solo piece Ici je lègue ce qui ne m’appartient pas, in which he examines his family heritage. The piece is subsequently selected for AEROWAVES Spring Forward 2024, a European programme dedicated to the discovery of emerging talent in dance. Ben Tanfous works with artists such as Olivia Grandville, Adeline Rosenstein, Anne-Cécile Vandalem, Ilyas Mettioui, Manoel Dupont, Armel Roussel, Laura Bachman, and Amir Sabra. For the period 2025-2026, he is supported by the Centre National de la Danse (CN D).
Orchestre vide, Longing for You premiered in April 2026 at Théâtre Varia in Brussels, after which it will tour to Charleroi danse, the Ateliers de Paris CDCN, the Festival de la Cité in Lausanne and Les SUBS in Lyon.
