Gaia Saitta
Born in Italy, Gaia Saitta lives and works in Brussels. She is an actress, dramaturge and director. She began acting at the age of 14. After studying communication sciences at LUMSA University, she graduated in 2003 from the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D’Amico in Rome. In 2022, while pregnant, she took out Belgian nationality so that her child could benefit from it also – and have two mothers, which is forbidden in Italy today. Gaia Saitta’s work feeds on experiences of transculturality, both human and artistic: exchanges with Alain Platel and research with Julie Anne Stanzak. Or love and resistance with Giuliana Rienzi, Cecilia Ligorio, Paola Michelini, Daisy Ransom Phillips, Ana Rodriguez, Frederick Denis, Tom Daniels, Cédric Eeckhout, Bram Smeyers and Igor Renzetti, with whom, among others, she co-founded If Human, an international artist collective based in Brussels. Collaborations in Belgium with the company Ontroerend Goed. Or work and friendships in Belgium with Jayson Batut, Maribeth Diggle, Lisi Estaràs and Quan Bui Ngoc; in Italy with Concita de Gregorio, Marcela Serli, Manuela Cherubini and Giorgio Barberio Corsetti; in France with Olivia Corsini and Serge Nicolaï, and with Mikaël Serre, Abou Lagraa and Anatoli Vassiliev; and in Sweden with Maria Sundbom. Gaia Saitta continues to engage in new encounters, including with I Made Djimat and Balinese ritual dance. And let’s not forget such inspired and inspiring artists as Phia Ménard, Joëlle Sambi and Christiane Jatahy, whose words and gestures resonate with her practice and her world. From 2013 to 2020, Gaia Saitta was associate artist at Les Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels. She is currently associate artist at the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles.
