Archivo de la Memoria Trans (AMT) was founded in 2012 to reposition and honour the memories of trans communities from the early 20th century to the late 1990s. Dominant narratives often erase or reduce the lives of transgender persons, so AMT began collecting personal images, videos, audio recordings, identity documents, letters, police files, articles, and diaries. They crafted them into an archive of struggle, love, and solidarity, a powerful counter-narrative to invisibility and stigmatisation. Within the dual framework of The School of Fireflies and the AFIELD Forum: Transitional Justice by Artists, AMT opens a temporary school on archiving as a tool. Participants are invited to bring personal photographs, newspaper clippings, notes, letters, etc. and collectively reflect on narratives that have been made invisible. The school also includes a clínica de limpieza focused on cleaning and preserving traces, and conversations with initiatives like First Waves—a Brussels-based collective documenting the struggles of Black and Maghreb-descendant communities—and the Ukraine War Archive. AMT creates a space to consider how struggles are interconnected and positions the archive as a tool to resist disappearance.
